JENNY SANTA MARIA
I use the wax resist method to create eggs specific to my interests and tastes. I was taught the procedure as it has been done for thousands of years. My batik eggs are created using the same process pysanky is created. I don't consider my work pysanky because I don't use religious imagery and I don't participate in the cultural traditions and prayers associated with pysanky. This ancient art dates back long before Christianity, when it was still a pagan tradition to celebrate the sun and the coming of spring. During ancient times, the egg was treated as a magical object to bestow luck and health for both the family and their livestock.
